Owners Manual FAQ's Tech Spec
  • Hi There. I bought a Primo from you in the summer – it is really really fabulous – everything you advertise and more. If you need anyone to view one in Scotland – they'd be welcome to come and see ours!

    Ronnie, November 2011

  • Just like to say thank you tom for all your help, we used the primo oven for the first time on sunday, i thought if i am going to fail i will do it in a big way so we invited 10 people around for pizza. we had an amazing afternoon making pizzas we made over 20 and to my surprise they were all perfect, the recipes for the dough and the tomato sauce are spot on . i cant see us using our oven any more, roll on the weekend i even made a calzone. i think ill buy myself a bike and start home deliveries

Lee Amis, October 2011 - Primo Mark One

  • Thoroughly enjoying the Primo! Had a party last night, I think we did 15 pizzas – terrific summer evening. We have had some wonderful pizza gatherings. Recently had a birthday party for my wife, who has a couple of favourites (BBQ chicken) and the starter I mentioned before (Caramelised Onion and Goat Cheese). This is a fairly simply pizza to make and everyone seems to love it to get the night started.

    Ben Cook, Manchester

  • The Primo is fantastic and has survived it’s first winter without issue. I’ve really missed the outdoor cooking through winter as my wife doesn’t have the same passion to eat fresh pizza in the snow as I do! The plans and build for the outdoor kitchen went really well and the Primo really finishes it off, it looks right at home and as soon as we get a clear day, I’ll be lighting it up again.

Darren Thresh, February 2012 - Primo Mark One

  • Thank-you all for your help and for a smooth delivery of our Primo Oven. I have found the guidance second to none, and am enjoying getting to grips with my new oven. Particularly of use was the Cooking Techniques guide. Thanks again! Gale

    Gale Faulks, June 2011

  • Wonderful! This has revolutionised the way I view family gatherings! I don’t have enough superlatives to describe how good this is. The happy, smiling silence of satisfaction as my friends and family tuck in is worth every penny spent. I can’t thank you enough!

    Geoff Lai, July 2010

  • Well, we travelled 4,000 miles to Chicago to test the best they had to husband left his pizza base, ate the topping to be polite and prefers the thin crust pizza cooked in our little Primo!!!!

Claire Pym - Primo Mark One

  • All completed, did not get chance to have a run through before inviting 15 last Saturday evening. Used your tomato recipe and your dough recipe (fantastic) we made Gluten free pizzas, wholemeal pizzas and white flour pizzas – himself criticised the shape of some of them but I did point out his shift was yet to come ha!

    Robin and Shelia Harris, Worcestershire

  • The oven arrived perfectly and I have just baked a pizza, a beef casserole and a perfect birthday cake for my daughter's 20th!

Many thanks for all your help.

    Roshi Saul, Gloucestershire

  • The Primo 60 oven is a quality product and I’d highly recommend it. The design build quality of the Primo 60 is exceptional. The moulding is crisp and you can see care and attention has been taken during manufacture.

All in all I think my Primo 60 will be around for many years to come and give me hours and hours of satisfaction and well worth the price.

    Phil Voice, France

  • Wanted to say how amazingly well it’s going – everyone is blown away by outdoor pizzas, and we’ve got bread, Italian hot pot, even soup, all cooking in it! (Italian beef stew, Stracotti di manzo, 4 hours in the oven, thickened with Orzo, best stew of my life.

Why buy from The Stone Bake Oven Company?

Here at the Stone Bake Oven Company, we manufacture and distribute our ovens in the UK, meaning no middlemen. We pride ourselves in our extensive experience in wood fired oven manufacture, and are always on hand for credible advice and guidance.  Unlike any other manufacturer, all our ovens are kiln dried before dispatch, meaning no laborious curing fires and each of our ovens is re-enforced with Micro Mesh Technology, exclusive to the Stone Bake Oven Company. The Primo 60 Oven is easy to install, with no building work required.

The Primo 60:

The Primo 60 Oven is our compact, affordable wood-fired oven exclusively designed and hand cast by the Stone Bake Oven Company in the U.K. A perfect centrepiece for a kitchen or garden, the Primo 60 is suitable to be installed both indoors and outdoors, ideal for those with limited space. The Primo 60 can be used "as it comes (core form)", or "built in" to personalise your oven to your design tastes.

The Primo 60: Aesthetic Design

The Primo 60’s award winning design has captured the attention of 'The Telegraph', 'The Times', and has been seen in 'Period Living' and 'Garden and Home' magazines to name a few. The Primo 60's design has European registered protection, meaning this smart design belongs to us. Please note that colours and finishes may vary between ovens.

The Primo 60: Internal Cooking Floor Size

The Primo 60 has a 600mm internal cooking floor diameter. Unlike other wood fired ovens that use designated cooking floor tiles inside the oven, the entire floor inside the Primo 60 Oven can be utilised as a cooking floor.

The Primo 60: Cooking Capacity

The Primo Oven can fit one large, or two small pizzas in at one time, or one large roasting tray or two smaller roasting dishes at one time. Please see the capacity diagrams opposite.

The Primo 60: Cooking Capabilities

Like all our Stone Bake Oven’s, the Primo 60 is capable of a range of cooking environments. Cook pizza, grill, bake, roast and slow roast. The Primo 60 is even capable of hot and cold smoking. Find all you need in the Stone Bake Oven Company’s Cooking Techniques Guide, and our tried and tested recipes section.

The Primo 60: Heat Up Times & Heat Retention

The Primo 60 Oven heats up quickly, reaching maximum cooking temperatures within 20 minutes. Due to its insulating nature the Primo Oven can retain heat in its core form for over 5 hours, without the need to add additional wood.

The Primo 60: Indoor and Outdoor Installation

Designed for easy installation, the Primo 60 can be installed both indoors and outdoors. Please note: certain requirements must be met for indoor installation. - ask a member of The Stone Bake Oven Team for more information.

The Primo 60: Flue Placement

The Primo 60's oven flue is placed outside the oven cooking chamber. This smart design means when the door is closed, the flue vent is cut off. This flue feature is crucial for maximum heat retention, low wood consumption and especially useful for roasting and other cooking techniques in a wood fired oven. Ovens with centralised flue vents in the oven dome result in sub-standard heat retention and higher fuel costs. For a black/ coloured flue finish, apply stove paint.

The Primo 60: Material Composition

The Primo 60 Oven Dome is made from an insulating aggregate, meaning excellent heat retention. The Primo 60 Oven Base is made from a dense commercial grade material, this stores heat for longer, ensuring crispy pizza bases and excellent cooking ability for hours on end. Due to the dense and insulating factors of the Primo 60, it can be used in its core form, without the need for extra insulation and building works.

The Primo 60: Reinforcement

The Primo 60 Oven is reinforced with Micro Mesh Technology exclusive to the Stone Bake Oven Company. These are stainless steel fibres embedded in the oven material which form a complex mesh within the oven. These allow the oven to expand and contract whilst heating and cooling, ensuring the structural integrity of your oven. Micro- Mesh Technology results in an oven that is designed to last and if you plan to move house or relocate your Primo, these fibres will make it safe to do so.

The Primo 60: Weather and Frost Proof

The Primo 60 Oven is already treated for protection from the elements, including frost. The Stone Bake Oven Company strongly recommend applying the Stone Bake Sealant when using the oven in its core form, just twice per year to keep your oven protected in the long term.

The Primo 60: No Curing Fires

The Primo 60 Oven by the Stone Bake Oven Company is the only wood fired oven on the UK market that does not require curing fires. Curing fires are a process of ‘setting the oven,’ before you use it, and can involve burning fires at consistent temperatures over a period of days. Failure to do so can result in irreparable oven damage. Here at the Stone Bake Oven Company, we’ve done it for you. Each oven is gently dried in a kiln before dispatch. Saving you time, inconvenience, fuel costs and providing you with an oven that is ready to use, immediately.

The Primo 60: Assembly

The Primo 60 Oven is designed for easy installation. The Oven dome is in one piece, and the two-part oven base makes for easy maneuvering. The base fits together with a tongue and groove joint and the dome sits in a recess in the base. The Primo 60 has a square reinforced base, meaning you can easily place it on top of a brick or block stand, with no need for a plinth or hearth to support the oven. Ask the Stone Bake Oven Company for guidance on building a wooden stand. For a hands free approach, simply purchase the Primo stand, for an oven ready to use. Please note: If you build your own oven stand it is at your own risk.

The Primo 60: Oven Stand Information

You can purchase a metal, weatherproof stand from the Stone Bake Oven Company online shop as a 'ready to go option'. Alternatively, you can build a brick or block work stand to place the oven on if doing so, please ensure at least three sides of the oven are supported by at least 103mm of brick or block work (1 household brick thickness). For wooden oven stand info, see below.

The Primo 60: Wooden Oven Stand Information

You can place your oven on a wooden stand however you MUST adhere to all safety precautions suggested by The Stone Bake Oven Company - There must be a non-combustible, concrete layer of a minimum thickness of 150mm in between the oven (see image, left).

- The wooden stand must be a wooden frame only, no wood is to run beneath the floor of the oven

- Please ask The Stone Bake Oven Company for the oven stand advice guide for further detail on wooden base construction

! WARNING: Failure to adhere to these guidelines when building a wooden stand may result in fire.

The Primo 60: Using it in its Core Form, "as it comes"

Using the Primo 'just as it comes' in core form, has many advantages. No building work if you chose to purchase the Primo stand, easy oven installation, and the ability to move the oven’s location if you wish. The Primo 60's excellent heat retention means it is perfect for pizza cooking, bread baking, roasting, cooking meats, including fish and vegetable dishes.

The Primo 60: Building it in

Choosing to build the Primo 60 in, (to add further insulation and an oven enclosure) is straight forward, and has many additional benefits. You can tailor the oven’s finished design to your tastes, build the Primo in, using wood, stone, brick, render or your choice of material. (For guidance on how to build a wooden stand contact the Stone Bake Team.) – Easy to follow build manuals are now available – see the pictures in our gallery. Building the Primo 60 in, results in extended heat retention to over 20+ hours without adding wood. This is great for individuals wanting to cook and range of different foods and those looking to explore cooking overnight, slow roasting and cooking with residual heat, for example cooking in the morning after the night before. Your oven will also be permanently protected from the elements.
